Inquiry to be re-opened in 2005 Montreal police shooting
MONTREAL- The Police Ethics Commission will re-open is inquiry into
whether a Montreal police officer was negligent in shooting a man in
front of a mosque in December 2005.
The order followed a review of the commission's decision in April into
the death of Mohamed-Anas Bennis, 25, rejecting most of the complaint
against Constables Yannick Bernier and Jonathan Roy.
The commission also rejected the complaint the initial police
investigation was incomplete.
An administrative tribunal agreed with the commission's finding that
Roy's failure to use "intermediate coercive measures," obliging Bernier
to use his weapon, needs to be reviewed.
The commission has 30 days to re-open its inquiry.
