The family of a man shot to death by a Montreal police officer in 2005 said yesterday it will launch a legal challenge against the Montreal Police Brotherhood. The police officers' union has gone to court to block a coroner's inquest into the death of Mohamed Anas Bennis, 25. He was shot on a street in Côte des Neiges by Constable Yannick Bernier, who claimed Bennis was about to attack him with a knife. François de Vetter, a lawyer looking after the family's interests, is to file a motion to challenge the Brotherhood's action.
